BREAKING NEWS in Missouri!
The House Committee just voted in favor (13-2) of HB1116, which would prohibit Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) across the state in Missouri. Yep, that’s right – BSL could soon be a thing of the past in our state! There’s still a long road ahead to make this a reality, and you can help.
The bill now moves to be taken up by the Rules and Means Committee, which generally takes a couple of weeks. If it passes there, it will be moved to the House floor for debate. From the House, it moves to Senate Committee and then to the Senate floor.
Please contact your House Representative and ask them to vote in favor of HB116 – let them know the positive impacts this will have on our state to:
• Focus laws to address ALL dangerous dogs as opposed to falsely labeling dogs as such just because of their breed make-up
• Allow families to freely choose the pets best suited for their families – remember, a Pit Bull was the star of the Little Rascals, they have served in our military, and are considered family to so many families!
• Reduces unnecessary euthanasia of healthy and adoptable pets
• Reduces shelter overcrowding because certain breeds cannot be placed in certain cities - this creates a healthier shelter population and a healthier overall community for pets
